Butte

Colorado

Crested Butte is nestled among almost two million acres of pristine wilderness in southwest Colorado. There are an abundance of things to do here. Winter sports enthusiasts know the area for its world-class alpine skiing and snowboarding at Crested Butte Mountain Resort, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and ice fishing.  Crested Butte also offers a wide range of summer activities. In the warmer months, visitors can choose from recreational activities such as hiking, climbing, boating, whitewater rafting, kayaking, fly-fishing, camping, and horseback riding.  In addition, mountain biking in Crested Butte dates back to the early 70’s when locals modified their “klunkers” to survive the rough mining roads and mountain passes.  Today, Crested Butte is one of the premiere mountain biking destinations in the country.  With trails for every skill level, a visit to Crested Butte is a fat tire paradise.

The town of Crested Butte has been on the National Registry of Historic Places, designated a historic district, since 1974. Reminiscent of the past, original historic structures still line the main throughway of town, the valley offers unspoiled views, and locals are quick to greet visitors with a smile.  Any time of the year visitors enjoy distinctive restaurants, unique shops and interesting cultural events.  Locals and visitors alike have said:  “Crested Butte may be the end of the road but it is the beginning of paradise”.
